The Celebration Continues

I was so happy that they decided to do something to celebrate our champion team. Even more excited that since I was working an extra long Thursday, I could sneak out of work a little bit early on Wednesday. I didn't go up to the Capital Wednesday afternoon, but I did listen to it on the radio as Governor Herbert read a proclamation stating that 24 November 2009 was Real Salt Lake day. The Real flag fling in front of the Capital.
The team, with Kyle Beckerman raising the cup.
After the Capital there was a parade down State Street. It wasn't planned, but I did get to the stadium just in time to catch them as they arrived. At that point, one had to make a choice to either slap the players hands or take pictures. I chose to slap hands. When am I going to get the chance again?
So you'll definitely be able to tell which pictures are from my camera and which ones I swiped. If I used my setting that stabilizes the camera then it was dark. If I used auto focus, they kind of became blurry/shaky. Plus, I didn't follow my hunch and charge my camera while I was thinking about it and it about died.
Leo bringing in the flag.
I actually think this is cool with the flag waving.
The team on the stand. We may have certain better known players, but every single one of them acknowledged all 25 players on the team and their coaches - how cool is that? Plus, every single person who talked thanked the fans. I will admit this was my first year following them. But, the truly die hards who were there from the beginning have seen them through some pretty horrible years.
Jason Kreis, coach. He made history by becoming the youngest coach to win the championship. I don't think he's even 40 yet. He used to play for Real and there were a bunch of naysayers at the start of the season saying he shouldn't stay around. (Really he took the team to the playoffs last year, and now we won so they better change their story!)
Nat Borchers - team MVP (if I heard them right) - and Jamison Olave. Great defensive players.
Getting ready to present the cup.
It was a good year for Real Salt Lake! From left to right - Rocky Mountain Cup, MLS Cup, and Eastern Conference Champions Cup.
Taking the banner up - the team members did this.
Moving forward. People in the stands kept saying they had it upside down and were talking like no one knew it.
But it was just right. I know it's dark, but how cool did the picture turn out with the lighted Champions in the background.
Party with the Cup!
Kyle Beckerman, Nick Rimando, and co-owner Dave Checketts lifting the cup.
