Meet the Team

I was so very excited about this night!!!!  Last year, I wasn't able to make it to the meet the team even because of my own family reunion, which was also the reason why my co-season ticket holder wasn't able to go either.  This year, they did it on a weeknight and there was nothing that was going to stop me from going.  Then, I got a phone call from Marcia saying she got sick.  Not a reason for me not to go in my mind (I am such a good friend, aren't I).  She then offered to let me use her season ticket holder card to bring someone with me, and this is where all  of the difference was made.  (Stupid me, even followed the rules they sent out and didn't take pictures, although I do wish I would have gotten a picture of Beckerman's dreads in a braid - it was gorgeous.)

I was actually able to bring one of the girls I work with.  All I can really say is that she has had a rough life and things had just gotten a bit more rough (even though it will totally get better soon as well).  She has recently discovered a love for soccer, which is so easy for me to relate to.  This was her first year trying out for the team and even playing at all.  She didn't make the team, but they invited her to be a manager so she can pick up the skills and maybe be able to play next year.  I had the best time with her.  She totally made the evening for me, even more so then meeting the players.

Watching her with Beckerman, was the absolute highlight of the evening.  She had him sign one of her cleats and even complimented her on how cool they were, even though he is a Nike guy.  He asked her about playing and what position she plays and encouraged her to try everything out.  She was over the moon and the crush absolutely grew.  It would have been a totally different evening with Marcia, and I probably would have made a big fool of myself, but I had to be the grown up, which was very good for me.  So, not that they would read this, thanks to all the players for just being what appears to be genuinely good guys and taking the time to meet the fans, and totally make one girl's night.

That is amazing. I love when "famous people" are nice in real life!
