The Healing Process

So surgery on the 1st went well. I really do have amazing parents. Both of them took time off work and arranged their schedules so they could babysit me. I am so blessed and fortunate. Dr. Brown did a great job. However, I learned a couple of lessons from this surgery that I did not consider before:

1. Having surgery done on the front of your foot verses the back of the foot is a completely different story. If I could choose, I would go with back of the foot any day.
2. When you get sick, gallon ziplock bags work much better for throwing up than a garbage can or bucket. The opening is big enough for your head (not that I'm encouraging anyone to put a plastic bag around their head), it can be sealed real quick, and makes for really quick and easy clean up for who ever is assisting the sickie. (Getting sick was a new experience for me with this surgery.)
3. Crutches with the arm brackets verses the underarm padding things are much more comfortable, although the balance is completely different. Glad Dad had them left over from his surgery since I wasn't aware I was going to need them.
4. Showers are made for recoveries on the right side. I had Dad's bench, but again it was my left foot and so things were still awkward and when I got home and didn't have his bench, it was that much more of an adventure.

For whatever reason, I decided to do a little bit of documentation in the healing process this time around. Right before the stitches came out.
A little closer view
After stitches and after I was able to some of the dead skin off - that was really nice to be able to do.
And yesterday. Yes, I finally took off the blue toenail polish. I still only have a few pairs of shoes I can wear. I am very impatiently learning how to deal with that. In time, I'll be able to do all of my shoes and heels again - I didn't realize hoe many of my pants were bought with the idea of wearing something with even just a little bit of a heal so now they drag. Oh well, I have to choose comfort over style - and I don't necessarily count myself as a really stylish person anyway.
Now if I can just keep my own natural grace out of the way. I have stubbed my toe more often since being able to be out of my surgery shoe then ever before. And, of course, today I decided to trip off the curb after church and choir. I am my own worse enemy.
