The fun part about working in the Primary is you never know what's going to happen. I pretty much spent most of the time today trying not to laugh. Which is not really a good thing when you are the one conducting. At least after opening exercises I could sit in the back and try to hide my giggles.
It all started as we were beginning and I am up front trying to set a good reverence example for the kids as they come in. Then one of our very active little Sunbeams (3 year olds), A. (I've decided to just put in first initials since I don't know how their parents would feel about me including them in my blog), decided to sing "Bomp-chick-a-bow-wow." I don't know where it came from or why, but I had to turn around for just a second to fight off the laughter.
Then we had another Sunbeam give a talk. M. has been one of our greatest stars this year. She started out with having crying fits each week when she came in and really not wanting to be there. Then all of a sudden one week she decided it was alright, came in and sat down, and hasn't had an issue since. She has given prayers, participated in sharing time, and now given a talk. She did a wonderful job talking about the temples and some of the blessings it's brought her, with a little help from her mom. When I told her what a good job she had done a little later she just gave me a look like "I know." Again, I almost lost it.
Sharing time with Junior Primary was definitely the most interesting part of it all. We played a game where the kids drew random acts and we were trying to get to the temple (can you tell what this month's theme might be). They did such a good job taking turns and not getting overly excited. Then it was T.'s turn. He's seven. His first time he did something good. The second time he didn't. On his way back to his seat he said, "I did really good first. Then I did really bad." (Pointing to his mother who is one of our teachers) "And you're going to ground me!" The crowning point was when B. (3) announced "I'm going to get married in the temple to M.!" He's going for older women as M. is four. He was pretty determined about it. As leaders we thought, he's going to have to work on that drug, smoking, and alcohol problem he admitted to during the game if that's going to happen.
It's never a dull moment and I really have to laugh at the little "love triangles" and crushes that we see in our Primary. It is interesting that it's always in the Junior Primary (8 and younger) and not with the older kids. But it still makes life that much more enjoyable and I love being with these kids each week. It keeps me young on those days I am feeling old. (Like when I stop to think about how many parent permission slips and intake forms I've signed when I'm not even a parent yet.)

My 3 year old would be A. She has done that at church way to many times!
