Decorating

For whatever reason, I was extremely anxious to get the Christmas decorations up this year. I try to wait until the day after Thanksgiving because it drives me crazy to miss this holiday (it seems like it's the only time some people show any gratitude). So, before doing my shift, I got the Christmas stuff out - and am feeling more and more in the holiday mood (and, yes, I am done with my Christmas shopping, although there always seems to be some kind of little thing that comes up after I think I am done). First of several Nativity scenes. I have never bought any, and never really set out to collect, but it's kind of fun to get them set up. This one the buildings actually have a string of Christmas tree lights to make them glow, but I think they must have burnt out or something.
After my trip to DC this year, I decided I needed to get separate tree just for those ornaments. It's hard, almost impossible to really see them, but there are some really cool and pretty ones in the crowd (I also put the ones from previous trips, so it's not just this last one).
A view of all of almost all the Nativity scenes.
Snowmen Nativity. My little people scene, as well as some of the block one.
My big tree. One of my favorite family traditions made it possible to already have the needed decorations for my tree when I moved out. Each year, Mom buys each of us a new ornament. Some years, we got to choose what we wanted so they didn't necessarily make sense to the years and other years Mom has personalized them to whatever may have happened to us that year.
Since I don't have a star for the top of my tree, this ornament goes there every year. This is the only Nativity scene I did buy and it's also the first ornament I ever bought for myself. It was on a class trip to Rothenburg while we lived in Wiesbaden. I remember thinking I was especially cool with this. It's still one of my favorites.
A couple other favorites. The piano (after I inherited my piano) was one of my yearly ornaments. The cover does actually open to show the keys, but doesn't stay open too well. And the other one I'm trying to make note of is the gorgeous flute Jen and I found at the Christmas store in Williamsburg.
My German pyramid. I do have candles, but need to get some of the sticky stuff to keep them from continuously falling out.
An Advent/countdown nutcracker. Silent Night, Holy Night. And, of course, another Nativity scene. This one was a gift from Claudia, a little girl I taught at Head Start. The first day she went through the day without crying was a huge day for all of us.
Some random Christmas decorations.
Trays courtesy of Taipan Trading. Who knows, maybe one day I'll actually use them for something other than a decoration!
And the next five are just so there is no doubt of where I work my second job. A few of these I keep out year round and change their outfits for the various holidays.

(And, yes, Rudolph's nose does light up!)
