2009 Christmas Program

I look forward to the Christmas Program in church every year. Granted, I look forward to it more when I get to participate and am not in charge of anything, but when you're the choir director that's not how things work. I struggled with music this year. First, I couldn't find anything that feels right and then I found five songs, which felt like too many, but I couldn't ever figure out which song needed to be cut. I'd decide and just feel sick about it, so the choir sang five songs, the Primary kids sang two songs, the counselor's wives spoke and the Bishop's wife read the Christmas story. It's not fair when you're about in tears when you need to be leading music. So the choir sang: Little Baby Boy, Mary's Lullaby, Angels We Have Heard on High, The First Noel/Jesus, Once of Humble Birth, and Silent Night (with the first verse being sung in German by a father/son duet). I found all of the arrangements online, most of them at ldsmusicsource.com. We finished singing, looked at the clock, and there was just enough time for the closing prayer and we ended on time. I've heard from several people that the program was a success and they were very glad nothing was cut. I will admit, there is part of me that is hoping I'll be released before next year's program, but there is always the fear of what the next calling could be. And I really do enjoy getting to be in charge of the music.
