Extending the Record

Next home game was against the Colorado Rapids. A lot of fans were upset with the way Coach Kreis staged the game. This is supposed to be a huge rivalry with the Rocky Mountain cup on the line and he didn't start with all of the regular starters. One guy made the comment that season ticket holders don't pay to see the second strings. I did not know this. I figured that we paid to watch the team play and everyone on the bench is part of the team. Learn something new every day. Here's the reasoning: between CONCACAF games and MLS games, the team played fifteen games, traveled over 22,000 miles, and played in three different continents in a very short period of time. Certain players really needed to be given some time to rest their legs (remember, we're only allowed three substitutions per game). My own personal feelings: I liked seeing the depth of the team and, quite frankly, I would rather ensure making it to the playoffs to win the MLS cup again and continue to have a chance to win and international trophy, then win a cup that is only between two teams. I realize this cup was paid for by the fans and is a tribute to the fans, but let's be honest, no one else in the league cares who wins this cup (at least, that's my impression of it) and this is only the first game in the series for it. I am with everyone else in that I want the team to get as many trophies as possible, but we can't do it at the risk of injury to ANYONE on the team.
Jean Alexandre goes in for the ball.
Fabian Espindola getting into the play.
Nat Borchers scores his first goal in his MLS career - it was a backwards header from a set piece. It really was quite pretty.
Gotta celebrate this goal - for oh so many reasons. I think Borchers may have been more surprised than anyone else (especially when he made the exact same play against New York the following week).
Immediately after the goal - so the pictures are a little out of order.
Great save by their team - not for lack of effort by Pablo Campos. The end result was a 1-1 draw. So, they can still take the Rocky Mountain Cup. A couple of cool things about this was it's something like the third year in a row that we have ensured our spot in the playoffs with the result from a game against Colorado and we have the only player who has been on the team that won the cup all five years of it's existence - Kyle Beckerman was with them when the cup started, but they were foolish enough to trade him. This was definitely our gain - we've actually gotten a few of our fabulous players from them.
